David J. Alexander
David Alexander is an experienced attorney specializing in commercial real estate, corporate, and commercial transactions, with nearly two decades of experience advising both international and U.S. clients on complex matters. His real estate practice includes the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing, and development of shopping centers, office buildings, and industrial properties throughout the United States. David also handles corporate asset and stock purchases and sales, general corporate matters, and a wide range of commercial transactions.
Prior to starting Alexander Law, David served as in-house counsel for a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) that owned and managed community retail centers in the Midwest and was a partner in the real estate and corporate groups of a mid-sized Chicago law firm focusing on assisting foreign controlled entities with their U.S. operations.

Ongoing representation of a foreign-controlled, U.S.-based research and development subsidiary of a Japanese medical imaging company in day-to-day corporate, commercial, and real estate matters.
Counseled a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust in the acquisition and development of fiber and wireless communication infrastructure throughout Illinois.
Advised the sole shareholder of a supermarket-based sushi franchisor on real estate matters in the $257 Million sale of the company to a publicly traded Japanese food service company.
Counseled Japanese private equity investors in acquiring majority stakes in joint ventures involving real estate transactions across the Midwest and West Coast.
Advised a global, Japanese-owned biorational agriculture company on the development and leasing of a 170,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and R&D center, supporting strategic growth and scientific innovation.
Handled the $11 Million sale of corporate assets and real estate in Northern Illinois for a U.S.-based owner of a truck stop and gaming facility.
Represented a West Coast buyer in the $18.4 Million acquisition of a 45,000-square-foot, 19-tenant shopping center in Central Illinois.
Advised a Japanese rolling stock manufacturer on the $50 Million development of its 900,000-square-foot North American manufacturing headquarters in Illinois, resulting in the creation of over 700 jobs. Oversaw ongoing job creation compliance issues related to State of Illinois economic development incentives.
Managed the five-store U.S. entry and expansion of a Japanese home goods retailer in Southern California, securing leased spaces between 20,000 and 30,000 square feet.
Oversaw the $25 Million development of a 175,000-square-foot North American corporate and manufacturing headquarters for a precision metal fabrication company.
Advised a Chicago-area industrial developer on a $41 Million portfolio sale of eight industrial buildings to a national private equity real estate firm.
Represented a high-pressure aluminum die casting company in its $12.5 Million acquisition of a 350,000-square-foot die casting facility in Indiana.
Counseled a Japanese bank in restructuring its senior secured credit facility extended to the owner of one of Chicago’s largest hotels.
Served as Illinois counsel to various state-chartered banks in commercial real estate loans secured by Illinois-based properties.
